523 Agriomatic S 12+4 - Feld-Getriebe Problem

Hi fellow IH enthusiasts.

 

I have two McCormick IH‘s, a 624 and a 523.

 

I have some experience with the agriomatic s transmissions as I spent my december holidays repairing the 624 some years ago.

 

The 523 has an interesting problem: It loses drive when selecting agriomatic range, but only when you are shifting from low range.

It works prefectly fine when in reverse and in high range.

 

I am suspecting that the control spool which is operated by the range select lever is slightly out of position, only when in low range though.

 

Any ideas? Is there any way to determine the correct position for this block? From what i can remeber it is only "mounted" by the copper hydraulic tubes that seem to hold it in place.

 

This is an excellent forum and I look forward to learning more about IH in the future.

 

FYI, I am in South Africa and the 523 is a MY1969.

Ich habe zwei McCormick IH, ein 624 und ein 523.

Ich habe einige Erfahrung mit Agriomatic-s-Getriebe, wie ich meine Reparatur der 624 vor einigen Jahren Dezember-Urlaubverbracht.

Die 523 hat ein interessantes Problem: es verliert Laufwerk beim Agriomatic-Palette auswählen, aber nur, wenn Sie vom niedrigenBereich verlagert werden.Es funktioniert prefectly wenn in umgekehrter Reihenfolge und im hohen Bereich.

Ich bin den Verdacht, dass die Steuerelement-Spule betrieben von der Palette wählen Sie Hebel leicht aus der Position ist, nur wennin geringer Reichweite aber.

Irgendwelche Ideen? Gibt es eine Möglichkeit zum Bestimmen der richtigen Position für diesen Block? Was ich mich erinnern kannist es nur "durch die hydraulische Kupferrohre, die in Position zu halten scheinen montiert".

Dies ist ein ausgezeichnetes Forum, und ich freue mich auf das Lernen mehr über IH in Zukunft.

Hi Wors,

nice to hear that IHC with agriomatic S gear box are running all over the world.

We also use a IHC 523A with agriomatic S.

There are two multi disc clutches in use. You told us that it works in high and reverse range fine. So I assume that the clutches are ok.

The hydraulic pump will be also fine. If you switch to low range the shift rod of the gear lever is switching a hydraulic valve to select the mode.

I suppose the leak in this area- valve or any pipework. You can try to check the system pressure in all three modes. On the picture you can see how to connect a manometer.

Thank you very much. I did Suspect the problem would be there.

Do you have any specification as to perhaps adjust the orifice that controls how quickly the clutch packs engage? Our 624 shifts beautifully, however, I have not been able to replicate this on the 523. 

I am quite excited to share that my father and I have recently bought a 724 with agriomatic together with a spare agriomatic transmission and engine block. So I see myself doing a lot of interesting and satisfying work in the near future.

Here arre some pictures of the 724 together with the spare parts.

We paid alltogether R5500 (365 Euro).

Hi Wors,

the price for all this parts is very low- compared what we are used to pay for it.

There is a throttle on the left hand side of the gear box to adjust the oil flow to the clutches. It’s covered by a hollow nut. see the marked area on the picture. But there is only one throttle for the whole system. Means that you are not able to adjust each function sperat.You told that the gear box in high and reverse mode works fine. Only in low mode you have problems. So I think it would not help to change the set up at this throttle.
